About the AUthor

Barbara Garrett began writing stories and poems when she first learned to pick up a pencil. Her dream of becoming a published author stayed with her all of her life.

She became a teacher and spent the majority of her thirty-two year career working as a homebound teacher for Fort Worth Independent School District in Fort Worth, Texas.

She taught children who were too ill to attend school. Barbara always felt she learned as much from her students as they learned from her. Her love for children combined with  her desire to teach them life lessons produced her first book Mo Banda.

Mo Banda is a serious, fearful little boy who overcomes his fear by facing it.

Once he does this, he discovers fear can become a friend who might have some things to teach him about life!

It was such a pleasure to read Mo Banda. The children will love the story for many reasons:

  • The illustrations are so child-friendly, that the pictures tell so much of the story.

  • Children will be able to relate to the character because so many children DON'T know what to do when they feel serious. This will show them how to get back to having fun; not to take themselves too seriously.

  • I love the level of imagination, which for some children is uncommon Imagination is such a powerful thing.

  •

The language is strong. I like that some of the vocabulary words are sophisticated, which is always a learning experience. Learning through fun - what could be better?
